MOT Extension Period End on 1st August 2020

On the 29th June, the Department for Motor Transport announced that the 6-month MOT extension due to coronavirus (Covid-19) will come to an end on 1st August.

What does the end of the MOT extension mean for drivers?

If your vehicle was due for an MOT between the dates of 30th March 2020 and 1st August 2020 – you have been allowed a 6-month extension period meaning that you can postpone your MOT within a 6 month period after your due date and your MOT would be automatically renewed.

You are still responsible for keeping your vehicle safe and roadworthy. If your MOT renewal is due after 1st August 2020, the extension does not apply and you must book your MOT to be completed by your usual MOT renewal date.

Why is the MOT exemption ending?

This year, many drivers have delayed taking their car to the garage to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 throughout 2020. However, now that non-essential services are re-opening and lockdown is being eased, more vehicles will be back on the road and it is essential that all vehicles have an up-to-date MOT to ensure they are safe.

Many garages, including Queens Park Garage, have put measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Many have also remained open, as we have, to continue helping with the upkeep and maintenance of key worker vehicles during the pandemic. Safety is at the heart of everything we do – from helping to prevent the spread of illness, to ensure that all drivers and passengers on the road are safe on their journeys.

You can find out more about the measures we have implemented at Queens Park Garage on our home page, or by contacting us.

What do I need to do now?

Check when your MOT is due. You can do this online, or if in doubt, please contact our team who can help and get you booked in, in advance of your renewal date. If your MOT was due after 30th March, it will soon be due for renewal and the 6-month extension period will soon be over. Regardless of the extension, we urge all customers to ensure that their vehicles are safe to drive and to avoid delaying your next MOT and service if possible.

We recommend that you book online or give us a call on 01202 216 104 to book your vehicle in for your next MOT and beat the expected queues. We are expecting a busy rush of appointments as the extension period comes to an end and do not wish for any of our customers to be disappointed or to have to wait any longer than necessary to get back on the road. Our MOT’s start from just £37.95 and you are sure to get the best possible service.

Our team wish you all the best during these difficult times and want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to help everyone stay safe – please feel free to call us to ask about the measures we have put in place and for any questions around the MOT extension.
