Buying a new or used car in 2020? Get it checked first...

When you buy a new or used car, you will experience a series of anxious thoughts and this is perfectly normal and quite common. Why? Because unfortunately, you cannot always guarantee that what you are getting is 100% what the advert has promised.

When buying cars from brand name dealers or from new, there are often fewer things to worry about as vehicles from main brand dealers will often have very little to no issues whatsoever, being that they are coming from reputable companies and have possibly never been driven before.

When buying a second-hand car or other types of vehicle, things can be more complicated. It is always wise to give a vehicle a ‘once-over’ prior to purchasing, and that doesn’t just mean a walk around to check the paintwork is not scratched.

Did you know Queens Park Garage offer a vehicle checking service before you buy a car?

When you are looking to purchase a new or used vehicle, you can ask a mechanic from Queens Park Garage to check the vehicle for you to make sure that everything on the vehicle works as it should and to make sure that you are not being ‘taken for a ride’… excuse the pun.

The main reason it is wise to do this, is because there may be a problem with the vehicle that could go undetected until a few months down the line, which could cost you a lot of money to fix. This, on top of the outlying costs that you had to spend on purchasing the vehicle in the first place is not ideal when you choose to invest in a new big purchase like a car.

To avoid this from happening, you can speak to Queens Park Garage about bringing the vehicle in to be checked over, a service which costs just £45 and could save you hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds later on. If you are purchasing from a second-hand dealer, you can often negotiate a warranty period in which you can bring the car to us before or after you have purchased it, on the agreement that you will be able to return it if you find any faults.

It is important that you agree to these terms with the seller before you purchase the car as this is not always the case that you will be able to return it. A good dealer may allow you to bring the car to us prior to purchase, but this will depend on your individual agreement and negotiations and whilst it is common, it may not always be practical or possible.

When purchasing from a private seller, we recommend asking the seller if they would be happy for you, or them, bring the vehicle to us for a check if possible prior to purchasing. Some sellers, trade or private, may be less inclined to do this if located far away, but if you ask and there are no obvious reasons for them turning down the offer of getting the vehicle checked – go with your gut and look for another vehicle.

If you are thinking about buying a new car or other vehicle and you need some friendly advice or would like to book in an inspection before you confirm the purchase, call Queens Park Garage on 01202 216104 or get in touch via our website contact form.
